A Curious Case

This is a movie I truly love, (almost) weep to, and feel so affected by, each time I watch it.

A man, seemingly alone in his journey, one reverse from everyone else he knows. L’sigh.

A story of love, and its transience.

Our existence is brief, you can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.

We're meant to lose the people we love. How else would we know how important they are to us?

but most of all

You never know what's coming for you.

Vacation

The morning sun, a refreshing seaside breeze. Simply magical.

I’d love to be there. It’ll be a break from everything that’s consuming me.

Its My Birthday

Hmm so I’m now seventeen. That’s something new. Anyway, today was the first time I’ve been to church in two weeks (well the last week I was sick, so yeah). And because I’ve been away for so long, my church friends have yet to see my new pair of spectacles. And what a spectacle they deemed it to be. (Okay, granted they’ve only seen me in frameless spectacles, I’ve actually been wearing those sort of frames for at least 4 years). Got all sorts of comments. Interesting.

Anyway (gosh, I use a lot of this word). Right. Following that, cell with the kids was mildly odd. Perhaps it is because I’ve been away from church for so long, or something else. I’m not too sure myself. Or maybe because Ian (the life of the cell, my co-CM, he’s louder I guess) was not around. Bless him. But all went well. Samuel came to cell for the first time (I believe). Good for him.

Oh and my church friends were simply awesome today. If you’re reading this, do know, you’re awesome. Thanks for planning the whole surprise birthday thing. And the tiramisu cake, yeah it was nice, even though I’m not the biggest cake person (tiramisu’s an exception). And the breakfast Kristine prepared. Thanks! And to Phyllis, for the card, for everything else. Thanks.

After service, I went for lunch with the folks at Goodwood Park. Just some local buffet. Should have went for the English high-tea though, that seemed nicer. Oh well, next time. Its not too expensive anyway.

Oh and I’ve finally got a new pair of shoes. Though not the ones I initially wanted. My second pair of tigers. Yay.

Right. Finally but not least importantly, thanks be to God for creating me 17 years ago in my mother’s womb. Unless I’m adopted. Which I don’t think I am. Anyways… yeah thanks be to God for the great 17 years too. For always being there, and still being there for me today and for eternity.

Seventeen.

Woah. New decade.

I’d love to have a wall like this, just that I’m not too sure what I’ll fill each frame up with…

Impressions x throat infection x fever

Saturday. My goodness, it was a busy day. 8.30 am, Mathematics tuition. 3 pm, Chinese tuition. But that’s not the worst part. Finding out at 12 pm that I had to rush down to Bishan to collect the tickets, that was the killer that made me panic like a lizard who had just lost his tail. Wait, that came out weird. Anyway I don’t blame anyone for the outcome of the day, its just that the chaos and pandemonium of the day killed me. Oh and then there was Impressions 2010 (its my secondary school’s band concert), held at Victoria Concert Hall. Not as grand as the Esplanade (odd right, I mean, it is after all a colonial building, I guess its just too rundown). I’m so glad I also managed to get my really good friend Shashank down there with me as well, even though he was quite apprehensive about going for the concert in the first place.

Sorry, my writing is rather messy at the moment.

Anyway, we had a nice dinner just before the concert at Aerin’s, average service, acceptable food, but nice white wine (okay, underage drinking, but so what right?). Though the last part wasn’t probably such a wise option given the fact that I was about to/already fall(ing) sick. Anyway we trod our way to the concert hall, where my gosh, everyone (exaggeration here) from my secondary school past was there. Ignored most of them I did. Whatever.

The rest of the concert was really a bore. With the exception of the giddiness I felt during the latter part of the concert, and the terrible pain in my right knee that I felt (for some odd reason. Its still going on till today). Despite feeling kinda unwell, I still ventured around Clark Quay and Raffles Place for a little longer with Shashank, just chatting and catching up. Bad idea. The next day was hell.

FEVER, A TERRIBLE THROAT, you name it, I’ve got it (this of course is a hyperbole). Thank God for the wisdom to get me to see a doctor. Turns out I had a throat infection. Wonderful. With that came a 2 days MC, a week long excuse from PE (did I mention that my right knee hurts for some reason?) and a $60 bill. Along with some medicine of course.

Gosh I’m too lazy to continue writing. Anyway I’m feeling a lot better now. Thankfully. Now to worry about catching up with 2 lost days of school and Commendation rehearsals…

Emptied to Be Filled Again to Be Emptied Again

This week was a terribly busy and tumultuous week, especially with long tiring days, painfully extended with Commendation rehearsals that stretch late into the night. (Okay, perhaps I am exaggerating a little here, it wasn’t that brutally painful.) The point is, Council Commendation rehearsals were draining and somewhat arduous. Especially because they took up a lot of time, and energy (I mean, in the form of sleep lost). Days turned to night, nights turned to mere hours, hours spent in repetition. Simply put, it emptied me.

Thursday was no different, long day, lethargic, especially. I think I spent at least 10 minutes of every lesson sleeping. I was hesitant to even go to school that day, but there were too many subjects for me to want to skip the day. Oh well, so I made my way to school, sore throat and all. AND THERE WAS A REHEARSAL! Goodness, I thought I’d never be able to make it to Life Concert at the rate we were going. But I thank Mr. C for being reasonable, and cutting rehearsal short, such that at the very least, we could attend half of the concert (beggars cannot be choosers eh?)

On to Life Concert, well in summary it was a deeply moving time. I’m not sure if it was the sensationalistic atmosphere (the lights, the speakers, the soothing music), but it definitely got me hyped up to thank God for the whole week, despite its ups and (mostly) downs. It also reminded me that God is truly good, that His love and grace is abundant and overflowing, that He never left me, even when I felt downtrodden and weary. I screamed my lungs out during the songs, my throat now aches, but it was all worth it.

On a related note to sore throats (well somewhat at least), there are quite a lot of councillors that are falling sick, due to exhaustion, and we have people with fevers, severe sore throats etc. Its time for prayer. Its time for God.

Well that’s about it for the week. Just one major event left (St. Hilda’s Secondary Band Concert) tonight. Ashley’s unable to make it, she’s down with a high fever. God be with her.

Fingerbone

Fingerbone’s deep dark lake, one that makes grass black and coarse like reeds.

It would like to seem calm. But it is not.

It would like to encourage life, but yet it pillages it away.

Welcome to Fingerbone’s Lake.

Its Summer.

The Potentate of Time

God is truly the Potentate of time. Every being is given twenty-four hours, no more, no less. What we make use of it is entirely up to us (thank you) or the people around us (yes, people can be very persuasive/forceful/influential). The point that I’m barking at (don’t picture this) is that I am getting incredibly busy, perhaps due to Council Commendation rehearsals, or maybe the increasing schoolwork. Nonetheless, I am determined to make it all work, God being my strength (that is, if it is part of his will).

Allow me to ramble on a little about Council Commendation rehearsals. I know that it’s a big deal. I know also that it’s at a grand cathedral, a white dame that has stood the tests of time and aged gracefully, fluttering its towering willow foliages, its leaves and chime singing a happy tune. (That sounded mildly poetic, don’t you think?) That being said, I don’t understand/am unwilling to accept the fact that rehearsals end so late. Then again, we all want perfection, don’t we? Oh and the long druggy hymns. Save me.

Oh and school’s starting to be a bit of a pain in the ass. Teachers giving a lot of homework (well, that's not truly something new), new content to learn, content that I’m barely familiar with. I guess its just what I’ve got to deal with, thankfully, not alone.

Oh and I’m so totally glad that I did well for this MSAs.
I highly doubt after the Council term starts, things (results) will be this rosy.
